Cycling: Alberto Contador keen to win gold at London Olympics

 	2012 London Olympics /  Flight Bookings / Travel Packages / Wimbledon  	  Spanish cyclist, Alberto Contador is eager to win gold at the London Olympics 2012 as he mentioned during a team meeting.  He missed the opportunity by a small margin in the previous edition of Olympics, in 2008.

Contador finished 1 minute and 18 seconds behind the 2008 gold medallist, Fabian Cancellara at the Beijing Olympics.

Competition in the coming version of the race is expected to be even tougher as Tony Martin, Richie Porte and Bradley Wiggins are all set for the individual time trial event of the race.

Alberto commented on the event as he said, "It's the kind of challenge that I say why not to? To me it's an opportunity that I really want to pursue. If I'm still going well [after the Tour], I'll give it a really good shot".

Tony Martin is considered to be the favourite for the event, following his win at the Copenhagen World Championships. He also showed his dominance at the two time trial stages of the Tour de France 2011.

The 28-year-old also mentioned that his main goal will be to win the Tour de France 2012. He has won the French Grand Tour on three occasions, 2007, 2008 and 2009, along with a young rider’s classification in 2007.

Contador briefed about his plans, "The main goal is to win the Tour de France. I know it's very hard. Everybody wants to win, but I will work hard for it. I do not know if I can win or not, but I'll try”. Read more >>
